Chernobyl Diaries Review

Chernobyl Diaries Review

I was so excited for Chernobyl Diaries and it most definitely delivered. I was a bit sceptical about the "shaky cam, non found-footage" type of camera mode, but it worked, it made you feel like you were apart of the movie and in the town of Pripyat itself.

The CGI effects were pretty good, it's not every movie when you get to see mutated fish, mutated wolves, a radioactive bear, and flesh eating mutants of Pripyat.

The story line was good, but a little cliched considering how friends get stranded in an abandoned town that's not really abandoned. The scares are good, they made me jump out of my seat and cover my eyes a few times, basically the only problem I had was that you barely got to see the mutants up close.

I think what makes the movie so scary is how realistic they made the town; abandoned & visually enthralling, but overall very thrilling and scary. To conclude, the movie was a legitimately good new horror movie, that delivers scares. Oren Peli did it again by making a kick-ass mutant movie. A definite must see if your a fan of the 'Paranormal Activity' movies. Its something new and different, something that hasn't been seen before & that ending was amazing. A good kick start to the summer movie list.

My Top 5 Revenge Films

My Top 5 Revenge Films

5. The Descent - The Descent was one of the most terrifyingly claustrophobic movies I've ever seen but it was also very vengeful. This movie is about 5 girlfriends that go caving in the Appalachian Mountains but end up getting stuck and lost in the tunnels and soon to find out that there not alone down there - that theres cave dwelling hominids, these creatures are horrifying looking and hungry and end up killing most of the girls. Sarah, the last one alive gets revenge on the creatures and slaughters them, then escapes. Its an intense thrill ride.

4. The Hills Have Eyes (2006) - I don't know if anyone really considers this to be a "revenge" flick, but to me it is. This movie is about a family on there way to California, but their truck breaks down in the middle of New Mexico dessert where a old nuclear bombing site used to be and the people that used to live there got horrible mutations from the radiation and they are horrible mutated cannibal monsters that live in the hills. As the mutants kill off most of the family and disgustingly rape a few of them, theres all but three of the members of the family left and they're pissed the fuck off. The family slowly gets there payback by going into the town where the mutants reside and brutally killing them. If you haven't seen the movie; watch it. Its intense, gory and disturbing.

3. I Spit On Your Grave (2010) - I Spit On Your Grave was incredibly disturbing to watch. I don't personally recommend this movie only because it has an intense and horrifying rape scene. But overall its very, very gruesome and very vengeful.

2. The Last House On The Left (2009) - This movie was awesome, gruesome, and an intense edge of your seat thrill ride. This movie follows the parents of Mari who avenge their daughter after they found out she has been raped and left for dead by a group of strangers that took shelter in their home during a storm.

My top 10 favourite found-footage films.

My top 10 favourite found-footage films.

10. The Devil Inside - The Devil Inside got alot of negative criticism from critics and people around the world but let's get this straight, The Devil Inside wasn't as scary as the hype said it would be, but all in all, its a legit good found-footage exorcism movie, that i recommend you watch, but not for the scares, but for a good plotted exorcism film.

9. Paranormal Activity - Paranormal Activity is one of my favorites' because it's what jump started the found footage genre and frankly it scared the shit out of me.

8. Paranormal Activity 2 - Paranormal Activity 2 was more intense and frightening than the original and it was a great prequel that I enjoyed even more than the first one.

7. Paranormal Activity 3 - Paranormal Activity 3 was the best Paranormal Activity in the series. It was more visually entertaining than the first or second, considering that its based when Katie and her sister were little girls and how the "Paranormal Activity" started in the family, and the ending was intense.

6. Apollo 18 - Apollo 18 is one of my favourites ONLY because its a found footage movie that has never been seen before: Space. The only area in this movie that disappointed me was how the "creatures" that infected people were rocks. But overall the movie had its decent scares and was a decent smart found footage film.

5. The Last Exorcism - The Last Exorcism was produced by Eli Roth which is one of the main parts why I love this film. This movie is creepy as hell. One of the best exorcism films I've ever watched. And it was cool to see the point of view of the antagonist.

4. [REC]² - [REC]² is one of the scariest zombie movies, ever. It's smart, claustrophobic, and just crazy intense. It shows the point of view of each police officer, and a few other characters who enter the horrifying apartment building, again. [REC]² Isn't just about zombies, It's about possession as well which is the crazy good turning point in the movie.

3. Chronicle - One of the best movies I have ever seen. An amazing, outstanding, brilliant found-footage film. Exceptionally smart. Its comedic, scary, thrilling. It's smart because its the only found footage movie filmed from the perspective of various video recording devices, primarily from a hand-held camcorder and held by 'his mind' used by Andrew to document the events in his life.

2. Quarantine - Quarantine was my first found footage movie I watched, and it absolutley terrified me. A remake of the 2007 '[REC]'. [REC] wasn't as good as Quarantine, Quarantine had a bigger budget and the makeup and FX were way better than [REC]. This movie chilled me down to my bones and made me cover my eyes, a definate must watch if your getting into the found-footage genre.
