Chernobyl Diaries Review
*Warning: Spoilers*
I was so excited for Chernobyl Diaries and it most definitely delivered. I was a bit sceptical about the "shaky cam, non found-footage" type of camera mode, but it worked, it made you feel like you were apart of the movie and in the town of Pripyat itself.
The CGI effects were pretty good, it's not every movie when you get to see mutated fish, mutated wolves, a radioactive bear, and flesh eating mutants of Pripyat.
The story line was good, but a little cliched considering how friends get stranded in an abandoned town that's not really abandoned. The scares are good, they made me jump out of my seat and cover my eyes a few times, basically the only problem I had was that you barely got to see the mutants up close.
I think what makes the movie so scary is how realistic they made the town; abandoned & visually enthralling, but overall very thrilling and scary. To conclude, the movie was a legitimately good new horror movie, that delivers scares. Oren Peli did it again by making a kick-ass mutant movie. A definite must see if your a fan of the 'Paranormal Activity' movies. Its something new and different, something that hasn't been seen before & that ending was amazing. A good kick start to the summer movie list.
3 1/2 stars out of 5
