My Top 5 Revenge Films
5. The Descent - The Descent was one of the most terrifyingly claustrophobic movies I've ever seen but it was also very vengeful. This movie is about 5 girlfriends that go caving in the Appalachian Mountains but end up getting stuck and lost in the tunnels and soon to find out that there not alone down there - that theres cave dwelling hominids, these creatures are horrifying looking and hungry and end up killing most of the girls. Sarah, the last one alive gets revenge on the creatures and slaughters them, then escapes. Its an intense thrill ride.

4. The Hills Have Eyes (2006) - I don't know if anyone really considers this to be a "revenge" flick, but to me it is. This movie is about a family on there way to California, but their truck breaks down in the middle of New Mexico dessert where a old nuclear bombing site used to be and the people that used to live there got horrible mutations from the radiation and they are horrible mutated cannibal monsters that live in the hills. As the mutants kill off most of the family and disgustingly rape a few of them, theres all but three of the members of the family left and they're pissed the fuck off. The family slowly gets there payback by going into the town where the mutants reside and brutally killing them. If you haven't seen the movie; watch it. Its intense, gory and disturbing.

3. I Spit On Your Grave (2010) - I Spit On Your Grave was incredibly disturbing to watch. I don't personally recommend this movie only because it has an intense and horrifying rape scene. But overall its very, very gruesome and very vengeful.

2. The Last House On The Left (2009) - This movie was awesome, gruesome, and an intense edge of your seat thrill ride. This movie follows the parents of Mari who avenge their daughter after they found out she has been raped and left for dead by a group of strangers that took shelter in their home during a storm.

1. Mothers Day (2012) - I don't know why I loved this movie so much, but i did. It was so entertaining and such great performances by all of the actors and actresses especially Rebecca De Mornay. This movie wasn't very gory but when it did have its gruesome parts they stood up to the films potential, it was very thrilling and you didn't know what was going to happen next which is a god given thing in the revenge genre. I highly recommend this film, I loved it!

Summary
I've always had a fond relationship with revenge films, they always seem to put you on the edge of your seat and give you a ton of adrenaline. They are obviously are gory which is another reason why I love them. I love seeing the antagonist of the story fighting for their lives instead of the other way around, like every other cliched horror film.

What a terrible list of "revenge movies"... while they're great HORROR movies, only a few of these listed are Revenge Movies. If you included The Descent, you might have well included Pumpkinhead and Hell Raiser, since they all have the demon getting wasted in the end. Revenge movies are like The Tortured!!
ReplyDeleteRevenge movies are where the principal character has a choice to act or not act, then chooses to totally go medieval in order to avenge the death or wrongdoing of another person. Just surviving by killing the enemy isn't "revenge".
